Peptide Science

Exploring the science of peptides

Peptides are short chains of amino acids that act as important messengers throughout biology. Their unique sequence and structure determine how they behave and interact with receptors and other biological systems, influencing processes ranging from metabolism and growth to cellular signalling and repair.

Even small changes in a peptide’s structure can affect how it behaves. This makes peptides useful for studying how biological signals work, how cells respond and how molecular structure influences biological activity.

At Pencell Peptide (PCP), we aim to make peptide research more straightforward by providing clearly identified compounds, detailed product specifications, useful scientific background and a Certificate of Analysis (COA) for each product.

From molecular structure to biological activity

Many peptides act as signalling molecules by binding to specific receptors and initiating downstream cellular responses. Researchers study these interactions to better understand receptor binding, selectivity and the biological pathways influenced by peptide activity.

Some peptides act mainly through a single receptor, while others interact with several at the same time. This is one reason different peptides can produce very different biological responses. For example, Retatrutide is studied for its combined activity at the GIP, GLP-1 and glucagon receptors, while Semaglutide targets GLP-1 and Tirzepatide combines GIP and GLP-1 activity. Cagrilintide follows a different pathway altogether, acting through the amylin receptor system. Together, these compounds help researchers explore different ways the body regulates metabolism, appetite, blood sugar and energy balance.
